What do kids need to know about technology?

So I was pulled in to talk about how and what experiences we need to give our grade 8/9 students to enable them to be critical consumers of technology. (Our district is restructuring -declining enrollment- and so all our grade 8 and 9’s will be together in one school.) Back to the topic:-) So…what kind of experiences will give students the skills and awareness that they need to thrive in our connected world. What knowledge will enable them to harness the 21st century tools and excel in the ever upwar techno spiral?
Our conversation came back to gatekeeping and filtering, and then I came across this post by Tom and have to say I agree with much of it.
It’ s not the easy answer, but it may be a piece of what we are looking for….
